1. How does your party platform address and defend the rights of individual beliefs and freedom of religion?
The Conservative Party has long defended our individual rights. In 1960 Prime Minister John Diefenbaker introduced the Canadian Bill of Rights which was the first time that our rights were put into law.
-
We’ll promote free speech on university and college campuses by working with the provinces and territories to ensure that they accommodate the range of perspectives that make up Canada through a commitment to free speech and academic freedom.
-
We will protect the conscience rights of healthcare professionals.
-
We will encourage faith-based and other community organizations to expand their provision of palliative and long-term care.
-
Conservatives think Canada needs to be a leader on the international stage, defending religious and intellectual freedom. We will create an Office of Religious Freedom and Conscience to defend religious liberty around the world and to ensure that our foreign policy is consistent with this goal.
2. How does your party platform address Parental Authority? How does your party plan to defend the rights of parents to raise their children in the way they choose?
The Conservative Party believes the family is one of the essential building blocks of our society. We want to implement policies that will strengthen families and help them prosper.
We plan to do this by offering a refundable tax credit for child-care costs, offering bereavement leave for parents who have lost a child through miscarriage and ensuring equal access to adoption for all children.
Many of the areas where questions of parental authority arise are under the jurisdiction of the provincial government, such as education and health care.
3. How does your party platform address and defend the safety and security of citizens, especially the most vulnerable?
Canada’s Conservatives know that many citizens are concerned about the rising crime rate, drug use and other issues. These problems are felt by the residents of Brantford-Brant who see the impact in our community.
There are several areas we want to address:
-
Many gun crimes involve illegal handguns smuggled into the country. We want to toughen up our borders to keep them out, make it easier for police to go after criminals using illegal guns and impose tougher sentences on people convicted of using illegal guns.
-
We want tougher sentences for people convicted of spousal abuse and we will help victims rebuild their lives.
-
We will defend children who are victims of human trafficking through stricter laws and tougher sentences. We will also increase training for police so they are better able to pursue these cases and help victims.
-
Canada’s Conservatives will provide stronger protection for seniors by amending the Criminal Code provisions on failing to provide the necessities of life to make clear that the operator of a licensed care facility shall be presumed to have a legal duty to the residents of that facility.
-
We will do more to defend rural residents who often fall victims to crime because they are isolated and police are distant. We will ask for tougher penalties for people convicted of crimes against rural residents in these situations.
4. How does your party platform address and ensure that debt will not continue to be heaped upon the backs of future generations?
When Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper left office in 2015 the federal budget was balanced and our debt, relative to the size of the economy, was dropping.
The Liberals entered office stating they would run small deficits for a few years to spur economic development.
But even before the pandemic, the deficit rose faster than promised. The emergency aid given out during the pandemic – necessary spending which we agreed with – added much more money to the deficit.
The Conservatives want to get rid of the deficit over the next 10 years and start to reduce the deficit.
We can do this by keeping spending under control while encouraging economic growth. The additional tax revenues will be used to reduce the deficit, not spent on new and unnecessary programs.
PPC – Cole Squire
1. How does your party platform address and defend the rights of individual beliefs and freedom of religion?
The PPC is founded on the four principles of individual freedom, personal responsibility, fairness and respect. We will respect and uphold the constitution, including our Charter and Bill or Rights. Canada is founded on the principles that recognize the supremacy of God and the rule of law. We will make sure that this foundation is paramount in all aspects of our society. The treatment towards Christians in our own country is egregious and will not be tolerated by myself or the PPC.
2. How does your party platform address Parental Authority? How does your party plan to defend the rights of parents to raise their children in the way they choose?
The PPC and I will repeal bills C-16 (transgender identity and pronouns) and C-6 (criminalizing conversion therapy). Children should never be subjected to the hyper-sexualization we are seeing being taught in public schools. It makes no sense to teach children that their gender and biology are fluent while criminalizing any type of help for them to be comfortable within their own bodies. We will stop the use of puberty blockers and transgender surgeries being offered and available to children and make sure that parental rights are restored and protected. I will also make sure that parents are able to continue deciding whether or not they want to enroll their children in public or private schools, including home schooling.
3. How does your party platform address and defend the safety and security of citizens, especially the most vulnerable?
- We will respect the constitutional division of powers in Canada and hold provincial governments more accountable for their healthcare services. It is their duty to make sure Canadians have access to healthcare services and supports. We will end federal GST and allow provinces to occupy this fiscal room which is the equivalent of federal healthcare transfers ($41 billion/year).
- The PPC will also protect the rights of legal firearms owners in Canada by creating a lifetime licensing program and reclassify firearms based on function, not looks or arbitrary political whims. We will mandate that all future changes to firearms regulation be completed through Parliament only, not cabinet or the RCMP.
- In terms of COVID-19, we will take a rational approach to dealing with this virus that does not consist of draconian lock-downs or vaccine passports. We will fire Theresa Tam and replace her with someone who respects the supreme laws in our country actually follows the science, not the advice of foreign global entities. We will take a targeted approach to protect the most vulnerable as needed.
- While the PPC has not made this a part of their federal platform, I will continue to push for abortion to be de-funded and criminalized in Canada and will also advocate for the end of the MAiD (medical assistance in dying) program. I believe in the sanctity of life for both our children and terminally ill.
4. How does your party platform address and ensure that debt will not continue to be heaped upon the backs of future generations?
- The PPC and I will save Canadian taxpayers an upwards of $11 billion a year by de-funding the CBC, ending corporate welfare, and stopping wasteful foreign development aid. We will continue helping other country’s in times of great need, but not to our own citizens detriment.
- Over the course of one mandate we will gradually abolish the personal capital gains tax saving Canadians an additional $7 billion per year, and lower corporate income tax rates from 15% to 10%, saving businesses $9.5 billion to raise employee wages or invest in R&D.
- We will abolish the federal carbon tax and return to a balanced budget while eliminating inflation, making the cost of living much more affordable for all Canadians, especially those already struggling to get by.
- We can not continue the wasteful spending we are seeing in Ottawa, Canadians need to return to work. We must be responsible citizens and live within our means and stop borrowing money from children and those not even born yet.
